TEACHING AND RELATED ACTIVITIES AT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, CHICO:
Joined the faculty of California State University, Chico in August 1973 and retired in May 2005 and colleagues gave me the title of Professor Emeritus of Anthropology. The California State University System had a phased retirement program known as FERP (Faculty Early Retirement Program) and I participated in this, teaching every fall semester for five years, until December 2009 when I completely retired from CSU, Chico.
Over the years 1975->1977 was the Social Science Coordinator for the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. In 1977 was granted tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor and in Fall 1977 became the Associate Dean in The Center for Regional and Continuing Education at CSU, Chico, a position held from 1977-to-1988. In 1982 was promoted to Professor of Anthropology.
In July 1988 resigned from my Administrative position and returned to full-time teaching in Fall 1989. In 1994 students selected me for Honorary Membership in the Chico Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma (National Honor Society) and for the years 1997-to-1999 was selected to be one of five "Master Teachers" of California State University, Chico. In 2001 students selected me for Honorary Membership in the Alpha Alpha Mu Chapter of Alpha Psi Omega (National Theatre Honor Society). In December 2009 completed my five-year participation in FERP and am completely retired and no longer teach at California State University, Chico. Since 2004 have made presentations on various cruises, with emphasis on "Peoples and Cultures of the Pacific" as well as World War II. Since 2009, my wife Carol ("Sadie") Urbanowicz, has also made numerous presentations on various cruises. Powepoint presentations that I have made on selected cruise itineraries have also included lectures dealing with Paul Gauguin, Charles Darwin as well as Science, Technology, and Creativity.
